Pro bono support

Free strategy support for charities.

Each year we give a small amount of free strategy work to charities and not-for-profit organisations that support neurodivergent children and young people. This includes autism, ADHD, AuDHD, sensory processing differences and related additional needs.

We choose a few organisations, so we cannot help every applicant. The work is one clearly defined strategy project, not ongoing marketing support.

Cost
Nothing. The work is unpaid and carries no obligation to buy anything from us. In return, we use the project as a case study.
The work
One defined strategy project, such as positioning, messaging or a communications plan.
Places
Very few. We take on a small number of organisations at a time.

Who can apply

Organisations that support neurodivergent children and young people.

You can apply if you are a registered charity, a community interest company or a clearly established not-for-profit. Your main work must benefit neurodivergent children and young people, or children with sensory, communication or related additional needs.

You do not need a formal diagnosis label for the children you serve. We look at who you help, not how they are categorised.

You also need one person who can make decisions for the organisation and someone able to put our recommendations into practice.

What we can do

One strategy problem, solved properly.

Strategy has the most effect where an organisation does valuable work but struggles to explain it. We can help with problems such as these.

  • Explaining your services clearly to parents, schools, funders and commissioners.
  • Repositioning when your current message is out of date.
  • Planning the communications for a fundraising or awareness campaign.
  • Settling a specific brand problem, such as how you describe who you are for.

You receive a written strategy document and a short call to walk through it. We agree the scope with you before we start.

What it does not cover

Strategy only, not ongoing delivery.

So that the work stays useful and finishes, we do not offer any of the following.

  • Social media management or content writing.
  • Website building or maintenance.
  • Design, advertising or other creative production.
  • Fundraising or campaign delivery.
  • Open-ended support after the project ends.

Paying clients keep scheduling priority. If you want more than the agreed project, we can stop there or agree a paid piece of work at our normal rate. There is no pressure either way.

How it works

Free, but still a proper engagement.

Free work still needs structure, or it drifts. Each project follows the same steps.

  1. You apply with a short description of your organisation and the problem.
  2. We review applications and reply within five working days.
  3. If we select you, we agree in writing the scope, the named decision-maker, the timetable and what you will receive. We also agree that the project will be used as a case study.
  4. We deliver the work by the agreed date and the project ends.

We work at organisation level. We do not need children’s personal records or case information. If your project involves interviews or research with families, safeguarding, consent and data handling stay your responsibility unless we agree otherwise in writing.

Questions

Common questions.

Will you use our project as a case study?

Yes. Every pro bono project is used as a case study. We tell you this before we start, and it is part of what we agree in writing.

Can we apply if we are a small, unregistered group?

We need a clearly established organisation with a track record, so very new or informal groups are unlikely to qualify. Tell us about yours and we will say honestly whether it fits.

What if we are not selected?

We cannot take everyone. We will tell you, and where we can, point you to a service that might help instead.

Is the work done by one person?

The work is led by Nadine Benjamin, BA (Hons) Bus Mgt, ACIM, the founder and lead consultant of Brand Strategy UK.
