What this website stores on your device, and why.

Cookies
This website does not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. Page views and approved on-site search topics are counted as daily totals without analytics cookies or visitor identifiers. To estimate distinct public-page connections, the server briefly processes the connection IP address in memory and updates a daily aggregate sketch. This estimate does not set a cookie or use browser storage and does not keep the IP address or an individual hash. Tagged campaign labels are saved with an enquiry only if you choose the separate, unticked option on that form; this uses no browser storage. It sets strictly necessary cookies for the client area (bsuk_client), the admin area (bsuk_admin), an optional human chat handoff (bsuk_chat), and a one-hour proof cookie after a sustained automated chat Turnstile check (bsuk_chat_verified). The sign-in cookies keep authorised users signed in; the chat cookie lets the person who requested a human reply return to that conversation. These cookies are HttpOnly, Secure and restricted to the relevant site API. A client session ends after twelve hours of inactivity or seven days at most; an admin session ends after two hours of inactivity or eight hours at most. Signing out ends the session sooner. The human chat cookie expires 30 days after the request or the latest visitor follow-up. The automated chat check cookie expires after one hour. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent under regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003.
Browser storage
Four features save data in your browser’s storage, only when you use them:
Newsletter invitation. When you close the newsletter invitation or subscribe through it, the date is saved under the key bsuk_newsletter_prompt so the invitation is not shown to you again for 60 days. Nothing else is stored, and it never leaves your browser.
Positioning Workbook companion. When you open the companion from your purchase email, its private access link is kept in this browser tab’s session storage under the key bsuk_companion, so refreshing the page does not lock you out. It is removed when you close the tab. Your notes themselves are stored on our server, as described in the privacy notice.
Positioning statement generator. Your answers and chosen statement length are saved under the key bsuk_positioning_generator_v1 so you can return to your draft. They never leave your browser. “Start again” removes them.
Project brief draft. If you choose “Save draft on this device” on the project brief, your answers are saved under the key bsuk_brief_draft_v1 so you can finish later. Your email address and phone number are never saved. The draft never leaves your browser until you send the brief, and it is removed when you send it or choose “Clear draft”. If you choose “Continue on another device”, a copy of your answers (never your email address or phone number) is kept on our server for 30 days under a private link; it is deleted when you send the brief, when you choose “Delete the uploaded copy”, or automatically after 30 days. The link token stays in the address fragment, so it is not sent to our server in page requests.
Storage used only to provide a feature you have asked for is exempt from consent under regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003.
Our hosting provider
Cloudflare, which hosts this website, may set strictly necessary security cookies if it needs to challenge suspicious traffic. These are not used to track you.
