There is no single standard price for brand and marketing consultancy in the UK. A review of one existing statement is a different purchase from developing a complete strategy. To compare prices fairly, establish the question being answered, the work included and what you will receive.
Brand Strategy UK publishes its current service prices on the services page. These provide useful examples of how a focused review, a defined consultation and a full strategy can carry very different prices because they involve different amounts of work. Check the live service page when comparing current prices.
What can a UK freelance-rate benchmark tell you?
For a dated market reference, YunoJuno’s 2026 report reported an average UK day rate of £518 for strategy using platform data from 2025. Its brand-strategist figures reported £494 a day. Treat these as a snapshot from a particular source and period, not a permanent UK price list.
These are useful reference points, not a price list for every consultant. They cover specified groups on one platform. They do not establish what a complete project should cost, how much research it needs or what an individual consultant will charge.
A day rate also leaves a second question unanswered: how many days are required? A lower daily rate can still produce a higher total when the work takes longer. Ask for the expected commitment and how additional time will be agreed.
Fixed prices, day rates and ongoing support
A fixed price covers an agreed piece of work for a stated price. It can make the commitment easier to understand, provided the proposal explains what is included and what counts as additional work.
A day or hourly rate charges for time. This can suit work that changes as it develops, but you still need a budget limit, a way to track progress and approval before the commitment grows.
An ongoing arrangement, often called a retainer, reserves agreed support over a period. It should explain the work or availability provided each month. Paying regularly does not automatically mean unlimited requests, immediate responses or every marketing task included.
None of these models is automatically better. The important question is whether the agreement makes the cost and responsibilities clear enough for the decision you are making.
Examples from Brand Strategy UK
Our services range from focused reviews and one-question consultations to positioning, marketing strategy and complete brand strategy. The services page shows the current scope and price for each option. The important point is that a focused piece of work is not a full strategy at a reduced price: it answers a smaller question.
Brand Positioning, Marketing Strategy and Brand Strategy involve progressively broader decisions and evidence. Their current starting prices are shown on the linked pages. This keeps the article useful even when the consultancy updates its pricing.
Brand Strategy is the broadest of the three and covers the widest set of decisions about the business, its audience, promise and character. A starting price is not a fixed quote for every situation. The required work is confirmed before the engagement begins.
The Positioning Statement Review is narrower still: it assesses and refines an existing statement rather than creating the underlying strategy. These examples show why the service description matters as much as the number beside it.
What makes one project more expensive than another?
The price can change with the amount of evidence to review, the number of markets or offers involved and the decisions that need developing. Research with customers requires different work from reviewing information the client already holds.
The people involved can also affect the work. Bringing several decision-makers to an agreed direction may need more coordination than advising one founder. Ask how their input and approval are included, rather than assume a longer document means a more valuable service.
A useful proposal explains why the recommended work is needed. It should also identify what can be left out. Buying more analysis than the decision requires can be as wasteful as commissioning too little to reach a dependable conclusion.
Check the full amount and the work that follows
Ask whether the quote includes VAT where applicable, expenses, paid research, tools and any outside specialists. Confirm payment stages and how changes to the agreed work will be priced. Do not assume that two headline prices include the same things.
Strategy and production are separate responsibilities unless the agreement explicitly combines them. At BSUK, visual identity design, website production and day-to-day campaign delivery sit with the client's chosen specialists. Their work needs its own budget when required.
The strongest starting point is to send a brief describing the decision, available information and practical limits. We can then recommend a defined piece of work and a price in writing. That is more useful than choosing the cheapest hourly rate without knowing what it will buy.
If you want to start with the lowest-cost options, the free Positioning Statement Generator drafts a first positioning statement in seven questions, and the Positioning Statement Review is a fixed-price review of one existing statement. Both are smaller steps than a full consultancy engagement.
